Elly Shepley is a dancer and choreographer located in the New York City tri-state area. She is the founder of the Dance Space NY, and Dance With Elly Shepley LLC- a virtual studio where aspiring high school, college, and professional dance team members can train and improve their precision technique and performance quality. She offers two signature classes- Sneaker Jazz™, and the Flexibility and Kick series.
Elly trained in both classical ballet and modern dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and the American Dance Festival School. She is a graduate of Point Park University's Conservatory of Performing Arts with a degree in dance performance.
Elly has educated dancers throughout the tri-state area for the past 8 years, teaching classical ballet tap and jazz at Point Park's International Summer Intensive, The Ballet Institute, and Manhattan Schoolhouse. She is also a current faculty member at Broadway Dance Center, and the coach of the Columbia University Dance Team.
Elly prides herself in empowering her students to understand the purpose placement and priority of each stretch and exercise. When you understand why you're doing something, you're more motivated to do it, and you can bring a new understanding and energy to the movement. She can't wait to dance with you, and help you achieve your goals!
Savannah Sigmon is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and performer located in New York City. Savannah began her dance training at Ann Freeman Dance Academy and attended the University at Buffalo, NY graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. Savannah is a former member of the Zodiaque Dance Company. She has taught and choreographed at several dance studios in North Carolina and in the New York City area earning awards and scholarships for her choreographic work. You can currently see Savannah performing at the Nassau Coliseum as a dancer for the New York Riptide.
Lauren is a dancer and teacher originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. She moved to New York City to continue her dance training at The Ailey School and attend Fordham University where she received her BFA in Dance. She attended Hubbard Street’s Summer Intensive where she loved working closely with the company’s artists on restaged and original choreography. Her modern dance idol is Connie Shiau whom she’s worked with multiple times including on a solo for her senior year performance.
Her favorite credit was working as a project dancer with Ballet Unleashed on a dance film. The film, Inklings, was choreographed and directed by Loughlan Prior, the choreographer in residence at the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Lauren was honored to be the introductory soloist in the film. Inklings has been featured at many international dance festivals and most notably winning Best Dance Film at Filmhaus Berlin.
Kathryn Green is a dance artist, choreographer, and educator. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Psychology. In her time at FSU, Kat had the privilege of training with faculty including Suzanne Farrell, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Donna Uchizono, Ilana Goldman, and Gwen Welliver, as well as performing works by Tim Glenn, Kara Wilkes, Caleb Mitchell, and George Balanchine. In her summers, she has trained in Paris, France and at the Perry Mansfield Professional Intensive, performing with the Soul Escape company. Kat has had her choreography showcased in FSU’s Days of Dance and at the Center for Performance Research in NYC. She served as an instructor with The Tallahassee Ballet and Notes in Motion Dance Theatre, and she is passionate about making dance accessible and supporting the future generation of dance artists. Originally from Greenville, SC and is a graduate from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Currently based in NYC, Kat continues to dance, perform, and teach, as well as work as the Archive and Social Media Coordinator with Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion and as the Outreach Coordinator for Capezio Flagship in Times Square.
Frances Gargano is originally from Southern California. She moved to NYC to attend Marymount Manhattan College as a dance major. Graduated in 2020 with a BFA in dance performance. She has assisted Debbie Wilson at Broadway Dance Center as well as Elly Shepley in her signature Sneaker Jazz and Flexibility and Kick classes at BDC. Frances currently dances for the New York Riptide as a New York Riptide dancer.
Julia Grubbs is a professional dancer and singer based in NYC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Point Park University's Conservatory of Performing Arts. Her favorite credits include Swing! The Musical and Blazing Boots. Her most recent adventures include Cirque Dreams Holidaze, BCEFA's Easter Bonnet, The Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, and a return to the Palace Theatre for the Piano Men! Julia is passionate about teaching her students proper technique and alignment, building strong, confident dancers, and mastering the true art of performing.
All dancers are welcome regardless of dance experience- our teachers are expertly trained to teach to multiple levels in the room and help the students catch up to their peers. YES! All The Dance Space NY dancers enrolled in a weekly class will get the chance to perform in the theater this Spring! Be looking out for more details soon! We plan to have our first annual show in June of 2025.
Families will be given a full refund if the student wishes to withdrawal before the 3rd week of the semester.
The dress code depends on the style of dance you are taking!
Ballet, Jazz, Tap shoes are all required for respective classes.
Leotard and tights are required for ballet
Hair should be worn up and out of the face for all classes
Hip-hop dancers can wear sneakers (Please make sure they are clean and not muddy for our studio floors!) and any clothing they like.

Yes. We offer one all levels make up class on a weekend each semester. Students are also able to come to other classes throughout the week as space allows. To schedule a makeup email thedancespaceny@gmail.com
At the Dance Space NY we try to keep costs as low and transparent as possible! Each one hour class is $35/wk, and each 90 minute class is $45/wk. Pick ups are an additional $25/wk ($20/wk for students who enroll in multiple classes) We also offer a 10% discount for siblings, please email thedancespaceny@gmail.com for a sibling code.
Yes! Our studio is available for private rental, as well as special events- we love to host birthday parties and private classes! Email thedancespaceny@gmail.com to schedule!
