Allow your child to explore their musicality and artistry through the technical foundation of dance

Classical dance meets creative expression

Our classes will teach your child the foundations of dance technique, and give them a new medium for self expression. We use the traditional ballet jazz and tap steps and terminology to unlock the magic and beauty of classical stories and tales. Students will learn about classic works including Swan Lake, Firebird, Giselle, 42nd Street, A Chorus Line, and The Music Man, as well as modern day pieces like Rubies and Serenade, Hamilton and Wicked.

Dance allows students to gain greater control of both their body and mind, by connecting the two through discipline and movement. Students who study dance go on to have a greater appreciation for all arts in general, a larger respect for their bodies, and a new lense of beauty through which to view their surrounding world.

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

What if my child has no dance experience? Which class should I sign them up for?

All dancers are welcome regardless of dance experience- our teachers are expertly trained to teach to multiple levels in the room and help the students catch up to their peers. That being said, feel free to email thedancespaceny@gmail.com so that we can discuss what is best for your individual child!

Will there be an end of year recital?

YES! All The Dance Space NY dancers enrolled in a weekly class will get the chance to perform in the theater this Spring! Be looking out for more details soon! We plan to have our first annual show in June of 2025.

What is your refund policy?

Families will be given a full refund if the student wishes to withdrawal before the 3rd week of the semester.

What is the dress code?

The dress code depends on the style of dance you are taking!

Ballet, Jazz, Tap shoes are all required for respective classes.

What sets your studio apart?

We are mom owned, and professionally led.

At the Dance Space NY our number one goal is that all students leave feeling inspired, encouraged, and welcomed. We want to foster community, acceptance, and joy, all while providing excellent dance education.

We are owned by local mom, Elly Shepley- current coach of the Columbia University dance team, and former Broadway Dance Center faculty member. All of our faculty have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance performance, or professional equivalent, and are currently working as professional dancers in the city.
